USA FOOTBALL ADDS THREE ATHLETES TO 2021 U.S. MEN’S AND WOMEN’S FLAG NATIONAL TEAMS

INDIANAPOLIS – USA Football today added three athletes, all Florida residents, to its 2021 U.S. Men’s and Women’s Flag National Teams. Both U.S. teams are comprised of 12 players and will compete for gold medals at the 2021 International Federation of American Football (IFAF) Flag Football World Championships in Israel from December 6-8.

Quarterback MARLEE MARQUEZ of Wellington, Fla., was added to the 2021 U.S. Women’s Flag National Team. Added to the 2021 U.S. Men’s Flag National Team were wide receiver KAMRIN SOLOMON of Jacksonville and DAVID “BOBO” PRICE of Callahan, Fla.

USA Football, the sport’s national governing body and a member of the U.S. Olympic & Paralympic Committee, manages U.S. National Teams for international play. U.S. Men’s and Women’s National Teams have competed in IFAF Flag World Championships since 2008. For the first time, 2021 will see both teams jointly enter the IFAF Flag World Championships as defending gold medalists. IFAF is a provisional member of the International Olympic Committee. Held every two years since 2002, the 2020 IFAF Flag World Championships were rescheduled for 2021 due to the COVID-19 global pandemic.

Marquez, a current Florida State University student, plays competitively within the Flag Football World Championship Tour (FFWCT). A flag player since age 7, Marquez graduated from Suncoast Community High School in Riviera Beach, Fla. Solomon is a graduate of Mandarin High School in Jacksonville and Florida Atlantic University, where he played wide receiver from 2014-17. Solomon notched 69 career receptions for the Owls and helped FAU win the 2017 Conference USA Championship. Price, a standout performer in both the American Flag Football League and the FFWCT, is a graduate of Paine College in Augusta, Ga., and West Nassau High School in Jacksonville.

The 2021 IFAF Flag Football World Championships in Jerusalem, Israel, will feature the deepest field of competing teams (42) and nations (22) in the history of the international federation’s world championships. The 42 national teams across Men’s and Women’s divisions spanning four continents will compete in December at Jerusalem’s Kraft Family Sports Campus, a preeminent American Football venue. New England Patriots Chairman and CEO Robert Kraft, who has led his NFL franchise to a record-six Super Bowl titles, is the lead sponsor of the 2021 IFAF Flag Football World Championships.

Player selections for the U.S. Men’s and Women’s National Flag Team rosters are based on skill and character evaluations by USA Football. The U.S. Men’s and Women’s Selection Committee evaluates athletes at flag football competitions and events nationwide. Other athletes are considered based on performances at non-scouted events.
