USA Football is the National Governing Body (NGB) for American Football in the United States and the sole U.S. member of the International Federation of American Football (IFAF), the international governing body for the sport of American football.

USA Football selects, trains, and leads the U.S. National Teams in tackle and flag football. The U.S. National Team program is one family of tackle and flag football teams of adult and junior athletes from across the country.

USA Football is looking for the best of the best to join our pool of elite athletes that we will select from for the Adult and Junior U.S. National Teams.

We are the exclusive selector and leader for the U.S. National Team that competes in IFAF-sanctioned and Olympic events. Our mission is to continue building a pipeline of athletes to increase our talent level and inspire future generations.

U.S. National Team Pathway Details

U.S. FLAG NATIONAL TEAM SELECTION PROCESS

Check out the 18 month journey to represent the red, white and blue in flag football.

Talent Evaluation
Compete at one of four options to enter the Selection Process: USA Football Sanctioned Tournaments, USA Football Hosted Tournaments, Talent ID Camps or a USA Football Digital Combine.

Roster Evaluation
Talented and disciplined athletes will be selected to U.S. National Team Trials, where they will test themselves in individual, 1v1, and 5v5 drills and competitions.

Team Preparation
The top 18 athletes for each team will be invited to U.S. National Team Training Camp(s) that will prepare the squads on-and-off the field for their international competition.

International Competition
The final teams of 12 athletes compete against the world in IFAF and Olympic competitions. Even numbered years feature World Championships. Odd numbered years feature Continental Championships.

National Team Development Program

The National Team Development Program (NTDP) supports the next generation of athletes on the cusp of greatness and gives more athletes a chance to #RepTheFlag! USA Football is building the developmental pipeline to feed future National Teams competing in international competitions, including the Olympics. 

Through the NTDP, the top athletes from around the country are identified, trained and selected to be developed and exposed to the next level of competition on USA Football’s Select Teams. 

HIGHLIGHTS & ACCOMPLISHMENTS
USA Football's U.S. Flag National Teams are among the most decorated in the world. The teams are multi-time IFAF Flag Football World Champions and are the reigning gold medalists of the 2024 IFAF Flag World Championships. USA Football selects and organizes the Men's and Women's U.S. National Teams. These teams will make a historic debut at the 2028 Olympic Games in Los Angeles. The Junior U.S. Flag National Teams compete at the 15U and 17U levels for boys and girls in international events including the Junior International Cup.

U.S. Tackle National Teams

USA Football's Men's and Women's U.S. Tackle National Teams have represented the country against international competition in the IFAF World Championships.

Over 75 USA Football Men's U.S. Tackle National Team alumni have been selected in the NFL Draft. The team has featured college and professional stars, including Rashod Bateman, Mac Jones, Tyrann Mathieu, Nazir Stackhouse, Jonathan Taylor, Wyatt Teller, Chase Young, and many more.

The USA Football Women's U.S. Tackle National Team is the only team that represents the country in international competition and has won four consecutive IFAF Women's World Championships.

HIGHLIGHTS & ACCOMPLISHMENTS
The Men's U.S. Tackle National Team competed in the IFAF U20 Men’s Tackle World Championship in Edmonton, Alberta (Canada). The Women's U.S. Tackle National Team competed in the IFAF Women's World Championship in Vantaa, Finland.

PATHWAY TO GOLD

Through our National Team program, we provide a pathway for athletes and coaches to reach the highest level of the game in both tackle and flag and compete for gold medals. As the National Governing Body (NGB), USA Football is a member of the United States Olympic & Paralympic Committee. USA Football is the sole U.S. member of the International Federation of American Football (IFAF). 

Our National Team athletes and coaches represent the highest level of the competition and the standard of excellence for our game. They represent the U.S. in international competitions including IFAF Continental & World Championships, the World Games, and the 2028 Olympics.
