Fifty high school student-athletes across 16 states have been selected for the 2018 U.S. Under-16 National Team, USA Football announced today.
The U.S. Under-16 National Team will compete against Mexico’s Under-16 Universidad Autonoma de Nuevo Leon (UNAL) Team on Friday, Jan. 19. For the fourth year in a row, AT&T Stadium, home of the Dallas Cowboys and college football’s Goodyear Cotton Bowl, will host International Bowl IX. Kickoff is at 1:00 p.m. CT. U.S. Under-16 National Team players will arrive in Arlington on Jan. 15.
International Bowl IX features 24 high school and middle school-aged teams across eight nations on three continents. U.S. National Teams will compete against teams representing Canada, Japan, Mexico and the Nordic region, comprised of players and coaches from Denmark, Finland, Norway and Sweden. As a member of the U.S. Olympic Committee and the sport’s national governing body, USA Football manages U.S. National Teams for international competition.
The head coach of the U.S. Under-16 National Team is BILL VOLK of Beaverton (Ore.) Aloha High School. As a running back for Western Oregon University (Monmouth, Ore.) from 1992-95, Volk earned NAIA All-American honors and was inducted into the Wolves’ Hall of Fame in 2007. He remains the university’s career rushing leader with 3,172 yards.
