KYLE BAILEY & WES BRYANT RETURN TO CALL USA FOOTBALL’S SUMMER SERIES IN LOS ANGELES
Bailey (play-by-play) & Bryant (analyst) to deliver live coverage of elite domestic and international flag football events from Los Angeles, June 20-22, on HomeTeam Network
LOS ANGELES, CALIF. & CHARLOTTE, N.C. – USA Football, the sport’s National Governing Body and the organization selecting and leading the U.S. National Teams for international play – including the Olympic debut of flag football at the 2028 Los Angeles Games – today announced the return of Kyle Bailey (play-by-play) and Wes Bryant (analyst) as the broadcast team for its Summer Series, presented by Under Armour.
Summer Series turns Los Angeles into a global stage for the future of flag football, with elite domestic and international events at the junior and adult levels at Dignity Health Sports Park, home of the six-time MLS Cup winners LA Galaxy, from June 20-22.
Bailey is a veteran sportscaster with more than 18 years of experience, and Bryant is a former Wake Forest University offensive lineman who has served as an on-air host for radio and television sports coverage. Bryant made his debut as a college football game analyst in 2023.
Bailey and Bryant will call the action for USA Football’s Junior International Cup, an international competition featuring 15U and 17U boys’ and girls’ national teams from Australia, Canada, Japan, New Zealand, Panama, and the United States. They’ll also be behind the mic for the Select Bowl, where top athletes from USA Football’s National Team Development Program train and compete in U.S. National Team-style practices and games, all while being evaluated for the 2026 National Team Trials.
Finally, the duo will cover the U.S. Men’s and Women’s National Teams as they compete in the International Bowl, a series of international friendlies against national teams from Australia, Canada, Germany, Israel, and Japan.
These events will be streamed live across the globe on HomeTeam Network, a streaming service available at app.hometeamlive.com. In addition to the games called by Bailey and Bryant, HomeTeam Network will provide coverage of every game across the Junior International Cup, Select Bowl and International Bowl.
All USA Football events feature the International Federation of American Football’s (IFAF) five-on-five rules to promote and maintain Olympic-style flag football.
This is the second consecutive year that Bailey and Bryant have teamed up to provide commentary of USA Football’s summer events. The pair made their debut together in July 2024 when USA Football held its third annual Junior International Cup, its inaugural Select Bowl and a youth and adult club national championship, The One, at Dignity Health Sports Park.
Both Bailey and Bryant are on-air hosts for Sports Radio 92.7 WFNZ in Charlotte, N.C. – a city where USA Football’s U.S. National Team program has strong connections. U.S. National Team Trials and Training Camps for adult and junior athletes are hosted at the United States Performance Center on the campus of the University of North Carolina at Charlotte.
“As flag football gets ready for its Olympic debut in 2028, USA Football is excited to have Kyle and Wes back for our HomeTeam Network broadcasts," said Joe Banach, Director of Corporate & Strategic Partnerships for USA Football. “After calling our premier events in 2024 and immersing themselves in the game, they’re the perfect team to bring our viewers into the action and showcase the fast-paced intensity of our elite competitions.
"We’re looking forward to another exciting year of Junior International Cup and Select Bowl action, and we’re thrilled to expand our slate of games with the International Bowl, which will feature men's and women's National Teams representing six countries from across the globe. With our focus on developing flag football for 2028 in Los Angeles and Brisbane hosting the Olympics in 2032, partnering with Australia to feature two U.S.-Australia matchups in our HTN coverage just made sense.”
Bailey hosts “The Kyle Bailey Show” on WFNZ in Charlotte. The show was recently honored in Barrett Sports Media’s Top 20 of sports radio’s top Major and Mid-Market Afternoon Shows of 2024, taking home the No. 8 spot. Bailey also hosts “Charlotte Hornets Pregame” for all 82 games of the NBA season and leads WFNZ’s Carolina Panthers pregame coverage. An alum of Virginia Tech University, Bailey’s play-by-play experience includes football, baseball and basketball at the high school, collegiate and professional levels. He has called a variety of events in these sports, ranging from high school state championship games to Power 4 college football to Division I men’s basketball. He also served multiple seasons as the voice of the New York Yankees’ Appalachian League affiliate.
“Ever since last year's final game, I've been looking forward to getting back to LA in 2025,” Bailey said. “The atmosphere and level of competition were incredible, and USA Football delivered a world-class event in a global city. The different styles and unique flavors of flag football from each national team were awesome to witness and created an environment unlike any I've experienced in my broadcast career. Now we're adding new countries into the mix – Australia, Germany, Israel, New Zealand and South Korea.
“Over the past year, friends and colleagues keep asking me about USA Football and the growth of flag football. Between the sport's inclusion in the 2028 Olympics and the NFL's recent decision to allow player participation, flag football has never been hotter in the sports world. That's a testament to the passion and vision of the people at USA Football. Wes and I are excited and grateful to bring the action to viewers all over the world once again.”
Bryant co-hosts “The Wes and Walker Show” on WFNZ in Charlotte and is a host, producer, editor and voice-over talent for the ACC Digital Network. "Wes and Walker” recently earned the No. 12 spot in Barrett Sports Media’s Top 20 of sports radio’s top Major and Mid-Market Midday Shows of 2024.
Bryant has provided coverage of ACC football and basketball, including the ACC Football Championship Game and the ACC men’s and women’s college basketball tournaments. In 2023, he made his debut as a college football analyst for the ACC on the CW Network. Other career highlights for Bryant include serving as co-host of “Hornets Live” on Bally Sports South in 2021-22 and creating and hosting “Wes Got Range,” an independent lifestyle show in which he explored local restaurants while interviewing local sports personalities. Bryant was a three-year letter winner at Wake Forest from 2003-05 after earning All-America honors at what is now Chambers High School in Charlotte.
“I was blown away by my experience at USA Football’s event last year, and I absolutely can’t wait to get back to LA to call another exciting weekend of flag football action,” said Bryant. “I went in with high expectations, but I was amazed by the intensity, teamwork, strategy and sheer skill on display. With every game we called, my excitement grew. It wasn’t just about watching the action. We saw how different players stepped up and made their mark. The energy from the athletes and fans was electric and made me want to get out there and play myself.
“Now, with the Olympics one year closer and the addition of international matchups between some of the best adult National Teams from across the world, Summer Series is going to be something even more special.”
Competitions at USA Football’s Summer Series:
Junior International Cup, June 20-22
USA Football’s 15U and 17U U.S. Girls’ and Boy’s National Teams will compete in the fourth annual Junior International Cup against teams from Australia, Canada, Japan, New Zealand, Panama and South Korea. It will be the largest competition in the event’s history.
Bailey and Bryant will call a limited slate of Junior International Cup games on Friday, June 20 before calling each of the gold medal matches across the 15U and 17U Boys and Girls divisions beginning at 2 p.m. on Sunday, June 22.
Select Bowl, June 20-21
The Select Bowl is part of USA Football’s National Team Development Program, which fields Select Teams across several divisions. These all-star teams compete to champions in their respective divisions while performing in front of USA Football’s coaches and talent evaluators for potential invitations to U.S. National Team and Junior National Team Trials in 2026.
Bailey and Bryant will call Select Bowl championship games from a variety of divisions on Saturday, June 21.
International Bowl, June 21-22
The week concludes with USA Football’s International Bowl from June 21-22, featuring the U.S. Men’s and Women’s National Teams competing against various men’s and women’s teams representing Australia, Canada, Germany, Israel and Japan. These international friendlies will help the national teams prepare for competitions this summer, including when the women compete at The World Games 2025 in Chengdu, China and both teams defend their continental crowns at the 2025 IFAF Americas Continental Flag Football Championship in Panama City.
Bailey and Bryant will call games between the U.S. Men’s and Women’s National Teams and their counterparts from Australia beginning at 12 p.m. on Sunday, June 22.
The Growth of Flag Football
Flag football’s popularity has grown substantially over the past decade and exposure and interest in the sport has skyrocketed following the International Olympic Committee’s announcement in October 2023 that flag football will be an Olympic sport in 2028.
USA Football’s analysis of the Physical Activity Council’s Annual Participation study data shows that in the 10 years from 2015 through 2024, there was a 37% increase in flag football participation among boys and girls aged 6-17 with more than 1.1 million athletes in that age range playing the sport in 2024.
Girls and women are driving the fastest growth in flag football. High school girls’ flag football is now sanctioned as a varsity sport in 15 states – including California – and many more have pilot programs with the goal of becoming a varsity sport. Collegiate opportunities are also expanding with the NAIA (National Association of Intercollegiate Athletics) offering championships and scholarships, and the NCAA exploring flag football as part of its “Emerging Sports for Women” program.
