Two of the world's top flag football powers met again on one of the sport's biggest stages. On Thursday, February 5, USA Football and the Federación Mexicana de Fútbol Americano (FMFA) reignited their rivalry in the USA vs. Mexico Flag Football Showcase presented by Toyota at the Super Bowl Experience in San Francisco.
After years of gold-medal battles, the rivalry returned for the first time since 2023 at the Super Bowl LX Flag Fieldhouse inside the Moscone Center.
Mexico scored first in what would become a back-and-forth battle, taking a 4-point lead into halftime. Mexico's first offensive possession of the second half led to an interception, and the U.S. capitalized with a touchdown two plays later to take a 2-point lead and ultimately secured a 34-35 win for the U.S.
The world's top flag football powers collide.
The global spotlight was shining when the world's #1 ranked U.S. Men's Flag National Team collided with #3 ranked Mexico for a showcase built for the moment.
IFAF declared the U.S. and Mexico men's teams co-champions of the 2025 Americas Continentals after weather forced the gold-medal game to be canceled—leaving unfinished business.
The margins are thin. Before their 1-point win at the Flag Football Showcase presented by Toyota, the U.S. edged Mexico 40–36 at the 2023 IFAF Americas Continental Championship and won 44–41 at the 2021 IFAF Flag Football World Championship.
