How do you demonstrate leadership in football?

I began playing football during my freshman year. I broke my wrist my sophomore year at the beginning of the season, and in the state Semifinal Round my junior year, I tore my MCL and PCL. I was always behind the 8-ball in my football career, and there was always a new challenge in my way, but through hard work and my love for the game, I rose above these obstacles, and I plan to help my team go back to the state final and win it this time around. Through my trials and tribulations, I try to inspire my teammates that if I can overcome lack of experience and injuries, they can aswell! During the football season, I’ve been preaching to my teammates that there are levels to working hard. Some people think they are working hard, but in reality, they are not. I try to encourage them to push past their comfort zone and strive for a little bit more because as humans we limit ourselves when we are capable of doing the “impossible”.

How do you demonstrate leadership in community?

I demonstrate leadership in the community by arranging clean up at local parks, volunteering to assist neighbors with snow and leaf removal, and putting together clothes and food donations to those less fortunate.

How do you demonstrate leadership in classroom?

I demonstrate leadership in the classroom by providing positive feedback to my peers, by showing up to school daily facing the challenges that are presented to me head on no matter how hard things get and practicing teamwork during group assignments so everyone can share their strengths and skills. I am always willing to lend a helping hand to anyone that might be in need.

How do you demonstrate leadership in football?

I have always been the first in to the locker room and the last to leave. My coach has a philosophy, HYDA HYDE, how you do anything is how you do everything. I try to do everything the same way. I know that when I do all the small stuff the right way, then I will do the bigger stuff the right way too. I never miss an offseason workout, attend all football functions, help out the younger players on the team when they need assistance, be a voice of reason in the locker room, and play as hard as I can on every play.

How do you demonstrate leadership in community?

I try to give back to the youth in my community by volunteering to help them at local youth football clinics. I remember when older kids used to help me when I was young and I want to do the same for them. I also applied to the Nassau County Law Enforcement Exploring Program and was accepted to be part of their Junior Police Academy. I want to be a police officer when I get older and want learn what it is like to give service to my community on a larger scale. I help deliver food to the elderly with this program and we go to schools to talk to children about Bully Prevention

How do you demonstrate leadership in classroom?

I have been diagnosed with ADHD, OCD and a speech impediment that has given me some adversity in the classroom. However, I have learned how to be a self advocate, learned to understand my learning disabilities and with the help of teachers, coaches and my dad, I have overcome these adversities to be on pace to graduate from high school with my class and with a great average. I also owe so much to my dad. I had lived with my mom in the Bronx until 10 years ago, and then he took me in with my grandma and gave me a loving home here. It was a tough adjustment at first but it ended up being the best thing for me.
