Heads Up Football for Schools Education Components

Coach Certification

Developed with NFHS and available on NFHSLearn.com, high school coach certification is made up of four courses and teaches concussion recognition & response, heat preparedness & hydration, sudden cardiac arrest, proper equipment fitting, shoulder tackling and blocking.

Player Safety Coach

Nominated by the athletic director, the Player Safety Coach supervises team implementation of all Heads Up Football components — for every coach and through the entire football season.

Concussion Recognition and Response

Education is the first step in concussion awareness and player protection.

Heat Preparedness and Hydration

An independent study of more than 3,000 football players from throughout Fairfax County (Va.) Public Schools found an 43.3 percent reduction in concussion among its 25 high schools, all of which employ Heads Up Football.
