40 finalists to compete for Punt, Pass & Kick national finals this weekend

Annual event features finalists from 25 states, Fox to spotlight champions

Forty young athletes from across the country will compete in the NFL PUNT, PASS & KICK National Finals on Saturday, Jan. 12, in Atlanta during the weekend of the NFC Divisional Playoff Game. A special on-field award presentation will be televised during the Jan. 13 broadcast on Fox.

Fan vote to determine captains for annual squad that honors the best techniques for young players to emulate

Twenty-six NFL players across 18 teams have been selected for the 2012 USA Football All-Fundamentals Team. This team honors players – 11 offense, 11 defense and four special teams – who exhibit exemplary football techniques for youth players to emulate. USA Football is the sport’s national governing body and is the official youth football development partner of the NFL and NFLPA.

2013 will be a year to build on concussion education

Much was reported in the news this year about concussion and youth sports, particularly football.

As a primary care and sports medicine physician, I treat dozens of athletes on a weekly basis from middle school to the elite across all sports. Concussions can occur in virtually every activity or sport. In fact, few realize that more children sustain traumatic brain injuries while riding bikes than playing any single sport. Concussion is not a boy issue or a girl issue – it’s a sport issue. Greater yet, it is a society awareness issue.
