U.S. Under-19 National Team defeats Canada, 35-0, to cap 2015 International Bowl

By Joe Frollo | Posted 2/7/2015

The U.S. Under-19 National Team dominated both sides of the ball as five different Americans scored and the defense held Canada to 145 yards of offense to win the 2015 International Bowl, 35-0, on Saturday at University of Texas-Arlington’s Maverick Stadium.

9875embedLed by U.S. Most Valuable Player Prentice McKinney (Dallas, Texas), a recent University of Oklahoma signee who had two interceptions, returning one 80 yards for a touchdown, the United States improved to 4-1 all-time against the Canadian Under-19 team.

“This whole week was really fun. It was exciting. Now, I’m ready for college. It’s what I’ve been waiting for for four years,” McKinney said. “I learned a lot this week. I improved my techniques and competed against really good players. I’ve also gotten to know guys and it’s been fun going against guys from other states. Great experience.”

U.S. quarterback Riley Neal (Yorktown, Ind./Ball State) completed 14-of-22 passes for 161 yards and two touchdowns – a 6-yard score to Ben Glines (Cincinnati, Ohio/Boston College) and a 5-yard TD strike to Jalen Guyton (Allen, Texas/Notre Dame).

Fellow quarterback Ryan Boyle (Urbandale, Iowa/Iowa) also played well for the United States, completing 10-of-21 passes for 97 yards and two scores. Boyle found Devontre Stricklin (Hewitt, Texas/Baylor) for a 16-yard TD and Tyler Petite (Moraga, Calif./Southern Cal) for a 28-yard TD.

Jordan Stevenson (Dallas, Texas/Wisconsin) led the U.S. rushing game with 143 yards on 11 carries, while Petite finished with a game-high eight catches for 87 yards and the score. Colton Bebee (Kansas City, Kan./Minnesota) had six tackles and a sack. Bobby McMillen (Naperville, Ill./Iowa State) also had six tackles, while Mario Osborne (Daphne, Ala./Louisiana-Lafayette) added an interception.

The U.S. head coach was Tom Westerberg of Allen, Texas.

“All the players, all the coaches were awesome all week, and this put a real nice cap on it. These are character kids who came out and played the best they could,” Westerberg said. “I’ve coached in all-star games, but this is the best of the best in the country playing for the United States. To get these guys to come together in seven short practices is a testament to the players and the coaches.”

Running back Logan Fisher (Saskatoon, Saskatchewan) was named the Canadian MVP after rushing for 56 yards on 12 carries.

The International Bowl is a collaboration of the sport’s national governing bodies in each country – USA Football and Football Canada – along with the International Federation of American Football, the sport’s international governing body as recognized by the International Olympic Committee.

Saturday’s game will be available to view in its entirety on USA Football’s YouTube channel beginning Tuesday.

USA Football and Football Canada are among the 67 national federations who are members of the International Federation of American Football (IFAF). IFAF’s member nations span six continental regions: Africa, Asia, Europe, North America, Oceania and South America.
