National Team alum Tyrann Mathieu shows leadership after tie against Seahawks

The Arizona Cardinals were brilliant defensively during Sunday night’s 6-6 tie against the Seattle Seahawks, but they struggled on offense and special teams.

As such, it would have been easy for star cornerback Tyrann Mathieu to be frustrated by the efforts of those two units, given how well the defense performed.

However, Mathieu refused to single out any particular player or group as the reason the team couldn't take home the victory. The U.S. National Team alum demonstrated leadership in refusing to pass the blame and insisting that the Cardinals need to improve as a team.

“It’s upsetting,” safety Tyrann Mathieu said afterward, via ArizonaSports.com. “We all have to be held accountable. We have to be better on special teams, offensively we have to score points, and defensively we have to create turnovers.”

Leadership is a value that the U.S. National Team prides itself on instilling in young players.

It’s also a trait that the 24-year-old Mathieu appears to have mastered in just his fourth season in the NFL.
