Versatility of National Team alum Ty Montgomery boosts Packers over Bears

Ty Montgomery has already played a big role for the Packers on special teams this year, making football-savvy plays like this.

On Thursday night, the U.S. National Team alum displayed his versatility, lining up at both running back and receiver and totaling 106 yards from scrimmage in the Packers' 26-10 victory over the Bears.

Montgomery stepped up after the Packers were decimated by injuries at the running back position. The team placed starter Eddie Lacy on injured reserve on Thursday morning, while back-up James Starks is also out.

The team traded for running back Knile Davis earlier in the week, but he had just two days to learn the playbook.

So Montgomery stepped in to handle a majority of the team's rushing work. He finished with nine carries for 60 yards and added 10 catches for 66 yards.

His quarterback was pleased with his performance.

"I'm really proud of Ty," Aaron Rodgers said in a post-game interview. "I thought he played great tonight, made a lot of plays. The short passing game was like an extension of the run game."
