Miami Dolphins drill teaches how to beat double team blocks

Learning football fundamentals are the foundation of any good practice – from pee wees to the pros.

USA Football visited the Miami Dolphins OTAs this spring and sat down with coaches to discuss some of the drills they use. With the help of Dolphins Executive Vice President Dawn Aponte, a USA Football board member, and the Miami coaching staff, USA Football is producing a series of videos that breaks down the basics in a way that youth and football coaches can use with their teams.

In the video below, Miami defensive linemen practice how to defeat a double team block. At the younger levels, the initial contact and kneel is probably enough to properly occupy two blockers. As players get older and more skilled, they can incorporate the stepthrough and pursuit into the gap.

This inside look at an NFL coach’s film session is available only on usafootball.com. Look for more from USA Football and the Dolphins soon.
